5-times sit-to-stand test (5xSST)

Indications

Clinical significance

Procedure

  • timed test
    • with arms wrapped around chest, patient stands & then sits 5 times (use of arm rests not allowed)
    • in one variant the patient is given 30 seconds, in another 1 minute

Interpretation

* 1 minute sit-to-stand superior to 30 seconds in elderly women[4]

Notes

  • get-up-&-go test & assessing ability to get down & up from the floor more informative
