Indications
- hypovolemia
- hemorrhage (also see blood transfusion)
Procedure
- large bore peripheral IV (preferably 2)
- intraosseous infusion if IV access not an option
Management
- normal saline (0.9% NaCl) with same 90-day mortality as balanced solution*[2]
* organic anions replace chloride to more closely resemble plasma
