Indications

• hyperphosphatemia associated with chronic renal failure with concurrent iron-deficiency anemia

Dosage

• oral dosing. 6-12 pills/day

Mechanism of action

• phosphate binder
• also increases iron levels
  • reduces IV iron needs by ~50% &.erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (Epogen, etc) by ~25%
