Indications
- first stage of labor in healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies between 37-42 weeks' gestation Contraindicated:
- avoid during delivery[1][2]
- inadequate data regarding the benefits & risks[2]
Complications
- infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa & Legionella pneumophila reported[2]
- 2 cases of Legionella pneumophila reported in Arizona 2016[3]
Notes
- immersion of a mother during the 1st stage of labor may alleviate maternal pain, but does not improve other perinatal oucomes[1]
- may decrease duration of labor & use of spinal & epidural analgesia[2]
- limit immersion in water during the 2nd stage of labor to clinical trials[1]
