• component of Shone complex

Pathology

• mitral valve leaflets appear as the canopy of the parachute
  • the chordae as the strings
  • the papillary muscle as the harness
• chordae insert into only one of two papillary muscles
• chordae are short & thick leading to
  • restricted movement of the mitral valve leaflets
  • obstruction of blood flow into the left ventricle
