Notes
FDA proposed changes to format of Nutrition Facts on food labels*
- inclusion of 'Added Sugars' to the 'Total Carbohydrates
- serving sizes more in line with how much people actually eat
- separation of 'per serving' & 'per package' information for larger packages
- mandatory inclusion of potassium & vitamin D content
- vitamins A & vitamin C content optional
- removal of 'Calories from Fat' (reasoning is that the type of fat is more significant than the amount)
- much larger fonts for calorie and serving size information
* Applies to all packaged foods except some meat, poultry, & processed egg products (overseen by the Department of Agriculture)
