Epidemiology

• rare, < 1 in 10,000 live births

Pathology

• membrane-like structure that extends across the laryngeal lumen at the level of the vocal cords
• other laryngeal congenital anomalies may be associated

Clinical manifestations

• onset usually occurs during infancy
• hoarse or weak voice
• frequent upper respiratory infections
• respiratory distress
