Etiology
- in part due to failed reinforcement of the cloacal membrane by underlying mesoderm
Pathology
- protrusion of the urinary bladder through a defect in the abdominal wall
Clinical manifestations
- presentation is variable
- often includes anomalies of the bony pelvis, pelvic floor, & genitalia
