acinus of gland

Introduction

One of the minute grape-shaped secretory portions of an acinous gland (grape-shaped structure). Acinus & alveolar are sometimes used interchangeably, although sometimes the term acinus is distinguished from alveolus by the constricted opening of the acinus into the excretory duct.
