Epidemiology
- rare
Pathology
- compression neuropathy of the median nerve at the elbow
Clinical manifestations
- weakness of the flexor muscles in the forearm & hand
- parethesias or pain in the skin of the palm, thumb, index finger middle finger & half the ring finger
- tenderness over the proximal median nerve, aggravated by resisted pronation of the forearm
Diagnostic procedures
- nerve conduction study
- conduction velocity of the median nerve in the proximal forearm may be slow
- sensory nerve action potential at the wrist is normal
Management
- RICED: rest, ice, compression, elevation, NSAIDs
- physical therapy or massage therapy
- surgical decompression
