Indications
- prediction of 28 day mortality in patients with suspected sepsis
- about as useful as serum lactate in assessing prognosis[1]
Methods
- 9 independent predictors of mortality
- terminal illness
- tachypnea or hypoxia
- septic shock
- thrombocytopenia (< 150,000/mm3)
- neutrophilic bands > 5%
- age > 65 years
- lower respiratory tract infection
- nursing home residence
- altered mental status
