Foster-Kennedy syndrome

Not to be confused with Kennedy disease.

Etiology

• brain neoplasm of frontal lobe
  • meningioma

Epidemiology

• rare

Pathology

• optic nerve compression
• olfactory nerve compression
• increased intracranial pressure

Clinical manifestations

• can manifest as acute visual loss
  • optic atrophy in the ipsilateral eye
  • optic disc edema in the contralateral eye
  • central scotoma in the ipsilateral eye
• anosmia ipsilaterally
• nausea/vomiting
• memory loss
• emotional lability
