Etiology

• degenerative: idiopathic

Epidemiology

• up to 7% in some populations

Pathology

• abnormal splitting of the retina's neurosensory layers, usually in the outer plexiform layer

Clinical manifestations

• usually asymptomatic
• rarely, loss of vision in the corresponding visual field
