plateau iris syndrome

Epidemiology

• one of the most common angle-closure glaucomas presenting in younger patients
• females 30-60 years of age

Pathology

• closing of the anterior chamber angle secondary to a large or anteriorly positioned ciliary body that mechanically alters the position of the peripheral iris in relation to the trabecular meshwork

Radiology

• optical coherence tomography

Management

• eye surgery
• pilocarpine may produce iris thinning & facilitate angle opening in some cases
