Indications
- adjunct agent for treatment of partial seizures, epilepsy
- bipolar disorder
- trigeminal neuralgia
Pharmacokinetics
- prodrug is activated to eslicarbazepine, an active metabolite of oxcarbazepine
Adverse effects
Mechanism of action
- sodium channel blocker similar to carbamazepine[3]
- diminishes release of excitatory neurotransmitters
- decreases synaptic transmission
