Clinical significance
- most sensitive & specific test for assessing intactness of the medial meniscus & lateral meniscus
- sensitivity 69%
- specificity 86%
Procedure
- performed with the patient supine
- hold calf in one hand & place the thumb & index finger of the other handover the knee joint line
- apply varus & valgus stress to the tibia during both extension & flexion
- the test is considered positive when the examiner detects a grinding sensation over the joint line
