• most sensitive & specific test for assessing intactness of the medial meniscus & lateral meniscus
  • sensitivity 69%
  • specificity 86%

Procedure

• performed with the patient supine
• hold calf in one hand & place the thumb & index finger of the other handover the knee joint line
• apply varus & valgus stress to the tibia during both extension & flexion
• the test is considered positive when the examiner detects a grinding sensation over the joint line
