Etiology

• infections with Dermatophilus congolensis

Clinical manifestations

• formation of crusty scabs that contain the organism

Laboratory

• culture
  • grows well on sheep-blood enriched agarose media; incubated at a 37 degrees C with 5-10% CO2
  • grey-yellow bacteria colonies become visible in 24-48 hours
