criteria for hypercoagulability workup

Indications

• < 40 years of age & one of the following
  • 1st degree relative with venous thromboembolism
    • may not be indicated in asymptomatic person
  • idiopathic thromboembolism
  • thromboembolism at unusual site
  • recurrent thromboembolism
  • patients with purpura fulminans
  • patient planning future pregnancy
• patients with warfarin skin necrosis
  • associated with depletion of protein C
