anterior spinal artery compression syndrome

Etiology

• atherosclerosis of the aorta & its branches
• aortic dissection
• vasculitis (arteritis)

Clinical manifestations

• quadriparesis (depending on the level of the injury)
• paraplegia or quadraplegia may occur due to interrution of the corticospinal tract
• impaired pain and temperature sensation
• proprioception & vibratory sensation is preserved
