• natural odor sensed as an unpleasant aroma, typically a burned, rotting, fecal, or chemical smell

Diagnostic procedures

• University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT)

Management

• symptoms frequently decrease with time
• consult ENT for procedures to induce anosmia or hyposmia
