• evaluation of anaphylaxis

Clinical significance

• levels peak 5 minutes after onset of anaphylaxis
• baseline levels return within 30-60 minutes

Interferences

• basophil activation during clotting may cause artifactual elevation

Notes

• may be impractical because levels must be obtained at symptom onset
