Etiology

• familial hypercholesterolemia (pathognomonic)
• cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis
• sitosterolemia

Clinical manifestations

• lipid deposition within tendons, ligaments & fascia
• smooth, firm, lobulated nodules over extensor surfaces, especially over extensor tendons of hands, elbows, knees, & Achilles tendon

Laboratory

• LDL cholesterol elevated
