Indications
- evaluating prognosis in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD)
- evaluating prognosis in patients with COPD
Clinical significance
- >= 837 meters in 6 minutes predicts low 8 year mortality
- useful to assess disability, need for supplemental oxygen, & prognosis for chronic lung disease
Procedure
- distance a patient can walk in 6 minutes
- pulse oximetry done at rest & with exertion
