• has ferroxidase activity
  • Fe+2 is taken up, oxidizetd to Fe+3 & deposited Fe(OH3)

Structure

• homo-oligomer of 24 subunits
• functional molecule is roughly spherical & contains a central cavity into which the polymeric mineral iron core is deposited
• belongs to the ferritin family.
• contains 1 ferritin-like diiron domain
