Epidemiology
- 1 of 10 births worldwide[2]
- marriage of first cousins is illegal in only three countries: U.S., North Korea, & China
- children of consanguineous marriages may migrate to the U.S.
- children of first cousins are more likely to be prescribed medications for mood disorders (RR=3) & more likely to receive an antipsychotic (RR=2) than non-consanguineous children[2]
