Indications
- infrequent asymptomatic or symptomatic cardiac arrhythmias
- increased diagnosis of atrial fibrillation & anticoagulation
Advantages
- long-term continuous ECG monitoring
- specific heart rate or QRS parameters can be set to initiate recording of data
- data may be sent to cardiologist (or manufacturer)
Disadvantages
- invasive procedure with some risk
- device must be explanted later
