disease activity score (DAS)

Indications

• tool for assessing patients with rheumatoid arthritis at any point in their disease course

Procedure

• complex equation involving:
  • tender joint count
  • swollen joint count
  • patient assessment of general health by a visual analog scale
  • measurement of ESR or serum CRP

Notes

• the DAS28 is a shorter, simpler version more practical for clinical use
