• peptic ulcer disease

• drug adverse effects of parasympatholytics

Mechanism of action

• antimuscarinic agent
• inhibits gastric secretion at lower doses than are required to affect gastrointestinal motility, salivary, CNS, cardiovascular, ocular, & urinary function
• promotes the healing of duodenal ulcers
• cytoprotective, beneficial in prevention of duodenal ulcer recurrence
• potentiates the effect of other antiulcer agents such as cimetidine & ranitidine
