Notes

  • seek shelter in a basement, interior room on ground floor, or in a ditch, ravine, or culvert[1]
  • do NOT stay inside a mobile home or a motor vehicle[1]
  • stay away from windows[1]
  • stay away from areas with many trees[1]
  • storm-related head injuries cause many deaths
  • a helmet may be helpful, but looking for a helmet in the few seconds before a tornado hits may delay finding shelter[2]
