- retained foreign object after surgery
- air embolism
- blood incompatibility (transfusion reaction)
- delirium
- pressure ulcers
- falls
- poor glycemic control
- intravascular catheter-associated infection
- catheter-associated urinary tract infection
- surgical site infection
- deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism following surgery or after prolonged bedrest
