- evaluation of congenital adrenal hyperplasia
- evaluation of corpus luteum contribution of progestational activity during pregnancy
Reference interval
- premature infant: 26-568 ng/dL
- newborn 7-77 ng/dL
- prepubertal children : 3-90 ng/dL
- adults: 27-199 ng/mL
- pregnancy: 200-1200 ng/dL
- postmenopause: < 70 ng/dL
Clinical significance
- 17-hydroxyprogesterone has a circadian variation with highest serum values in the AM
- leuteal phase variation indicates corpus luteum activity

- early morning specimen preferred
- freeze immediately
- store at 4 degrees C for up to 4 days
