Introduction
The corpus luteum formed is from remnants of a ruptured ovarian follicle during the menstrual cycle (after day 14). The corpus luteum secretes progesterone, estradiol & inhibin A resulting in slowed GnRH pulse. Luteolysis occurs in the absence of trophic stimulation from a gravid uterus.
