Investigational procedure for targeted delivery in gene therapy.
Procedure
- adenovirus vectors bearing either therapeutic or marker genes can be injected into specific cells of the thalamus
- specific axonal connections from neurons in the thalamus to neurons in the cortex enable spread of the adenovirus vector with its gene cargo to cortical regions, where the therapeutic or marker gene-encoded proteins are expressed
