Introduction

Normal tidal volume with spontaneous respirations is 5 mL/kg.

Procedure

  • tidal volumes on ventilator are generally set to 500-700 mL
    • 6-8 mL/kg is usually safe starting point[3]
  • lower tidal volumes may reduce risk of ARDS[2]
