Indications

• increased intracranial pressure
  • intracranial hematoma
    • subdural hematoma
    • epidural hematoma
  • intracranial abscess
  • arachnoid cyst
  • intracranial mass lesion
  • hydrocephalus

Procedure

• a drill is used to create a hole in the skull for drainage of an intracranial hematoma
• low-dose aspirin (100 mg) may be continued during burr hole drainage
