Cameron erosion

Epidemiology

• 5% of patients with hiatal hernia

Pathology

• linear erosions of gastric hiatal hernia mucosa
• thought to be caused by mechanical trauma of hiatal hernia sliding up & down

Clinical manifestations

• chronic upper GI hemorrhage presenting as iron-deficiency anemia

Laboratory

• complete blood count vs hemoglobin/hematocrit
• iron studies

Diagnostic procedures

• upper GI endoscopy

Management

• proton pump inhibitor
• oral iron supplementation
• surgical repair of hiatal hernia
