Adverse effects
- ototoxicity
- tinnitus
- vestibular toxicity may occur up to 2-3 months after stopping drug
- nephrotoxicity
- occurs after 5-7 days of therapy & correlates with the cumulative dose
- often non-oliguric acute tubular necrosis
- once a day dosing may reduce nephrotoxicity
- even low-dose aminoglycosides may be nephrotoxic[1]
