- the organ of Corti contains 1 inner layer & 3 outer layers of hair cells
Innervation
- innervated by the cochlear nerve
Pathology
- loud noises, toxic drugs, viral infections gradually deplete the number cochlear hair cells, leading to hearing loss[2]
- cochlear stem cells do not replace this loss[2]
