iliofemoral ligament

Introduction

A triangular ligament attached by its apex to the anterior inferior spine of the ilium & rim of the acetabulum & by its base to the anterior intertrochanteric line of the femur.

The ligament is strengthened at its lateral borders & is among the strongest ligaments in the body.

Function

• limits extension at the hip.
