Function

• they may function as chemoreceptors &/or baroreceptors communicating between the distal tubule & the afferent arteriole of the nephron.

Structure

• a group cells in the distal tubular epithelium, adjacent to cells of the afferent arterioles, as a component of the juxtaglomerular apparatus
• the cells are closely packed & stain densely.
