iliopsoas muscle

Introduction

Formed from a fusion of the iliacus & psoas major muscles & inserting into the anterior surface of the lesser trochanter of the femur by a common tendon.

The iliopsoas is the chief flexor of the thigh, & when the thigh is fixed, it is a strong flexor of the trunk (sit-ups).
