Introduction
Extraocular muscle in the orbit.
Origin
- orbital surface of the lesser wing of the sphenoid, above & anterior to the optic canal
Insertion
- skin of eyelid, tarsal plate & orbital walls, by medial & lateral expansions of the aponeurosis of insertion
Action
raises the upper eyelid
Innervation
Pathology
- levator dehiscence* resulting in blepharoptosis[2]
* gradual stretching of the levator superioris aponeurosis[2]
