(Proximal attachment)

• ischial tuberosity

Insertion

(Distal attachment)

• medial surface of superior part of tibia

Action

• Extend thigh
• Flex leg & rotate medially when knee is flexed
• Can extend trunk when thigh & leg are flexed

Innervation

• tibial division of sciatic nerve (L5, S1 & S2)
• main segmental innervation--> L5, S1
