Introduction
A proprioceptive sensory nerve ending embedded among the fibers of a tendon.
It is often located near the junction of the muscle with the tendon.
The sensory dendrites of the Golgi tendon organ afferent are interwoven with collagen fibrils in the tendon.
It is activated upon compression that accompanies an increase in muscle tension due to:
- active contraction of the muscle
- passive stretch of the muscle
