Introduction

2 portions:

• Meckel band/ligament:
  • portion of the anterior ligament that extends from the base of the anterior process through the petrotympanic fissure.
  • attach to the spine of sphenoid
• Anterior ligament of Helmholtz:
  • portion of the ligament that extends from the anterior aspect of the neck of the malleus to the anterior boundary of the tympanic notch
