Introduction

2 groups of nodes located in the popliteal fossa.

  • Superficial popliteal:
    • around the termination of the saphenous vein
    • drains the skin of the back of the leg & lateral side of the foot
  • Deep popliteal:
    • around the popliteal vessels, that drain the superficial group, the deep structures of the leg & the knee joint
