lingual gyrus

Introduction

A short medial convolution on the medial aspect of the temporal & occipital lobes, separated from the lateral occipitotemporal or fusiform gyrus by the collateral sulcus & from the cuneus by the calcarine sulcus. Its anterior end merges with or abuts the posterior end or isthmus of the parahippocampal gyrus. The upper banks of the lingual gyrus corresponds to the inferior 1/2 of the striate cortex, respresenting the contralateral upper quadrant of the binocular field of vision.
