esophageal plexus

Introduction

One of 2 nervous plexuses (anterior & posterior) on the walls of the esophagus.

Origin

• right vagus nerve & left recurrent (laryngeal?) nerve (anterior)
• anastomosing trunks of the vagus from the pulmonary plexuses (posterior)

Branches

• fibers supplying the mucous & muscular walls of the esophagus
