tympanic nerve (Andersh nerve, Jacobson nerve)

Origin

• inferior ganglion of the glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX)

Innervation

• tympanic plexus
  • mucous membrane of the tympanic cavity, mastoid air cells & auditory tube
  • presynaptic parasympathetic fibers of the lesser superficial petrosal nerve pass through the tympanic nerve to the otic ganglion & parotid gland

Course

• passes through the tympanic caniliculus to the tympanic cavity, forming the tympanic plexus.
