superior gluteal nerve

Origin

• sacral plexus (L4, L5, S1)

Innervation

(abductors & medial rotators of hip)

• gluteus medius
• gluteus minimus
• tensor fascia lata

Pathology

Injury:

• results in the pelvis to drop on the unsupported side when the foot is lifted off the ground
• may be injured during hip arthroplasty via lateral incision
